Beginning June 30, 2026, the Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement program will be in effect on MTA Bridges and Tunnels facilities. Drivers who speed in designated work zones will be subject to a warning or a fine.
In the first 30 days after the program starts, the MTA will issue warning notices for exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour.
In the second phase, the MTA will issue a Notice of Liability (NOL) for exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour. These will be issued no sooner than 30 days after the program starts.
Any of the MTA Bridge and Tunnel facilities may have automated work zone speed cameras in effect whenever work is ongoing, which includes:
- Bronx-Whitestone Bridge
- Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge
- Henry Hudson Bridge
- Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge
- Robert F. Kennedy Bridge
- Throgs Neck Bridge
- Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge
- Hugh L. Carey Tunnel
- Queens-Midtown Tunnel
Signs alerting drivers to the presence of work zone speed cameras will be posted ahead of where the work zones begin.
