The NYPD and the Mayor’s office announced a new citywide public safety initiative that:

  • Focuses on enhancing trust between communities and the police
  • Addresses everyday issues that impact New Yorkers' sense of safety and well-being

The new Quality of Life Division will unite specially-trained officers from various existing community-oriented roles, including:

  • Neighborhood coordination officers
  • Youth coordination officers
  • Traffic safety officers

This restructuring creates a more flexible and responsive deployment model, allowing the NYPD to direct resources to specific needs within their communities.

These "Q-Teams" will focus on non-emergency 311 and 911 concerns, such as abandoned vehicles, noise complaints and illegal parking. Teams will also continue to nurture the relationships that were built with businesses and local community.

The pilot program began on April 14, 2025 in the 13th, 40th, 60th, 75th and 101st Precincts and Police Service Area (PSA) 1. The initiative will be evaluated and refined before expanding citywide.
