The Human Resources Administration (HRA)'s Home Support Unit (HSU) works with landlords, real estate brokers, and property managers in New York City and the surrounding areas to lease vacant apartments to New Yorkers with housing subsidies residing in New York City shelters.
HSU can help participating landlords and brokers navigate the rental process by:
- Arranging viewings for New Yorkers with housing subsidies residing in New York City shelters
- Assisting with leasing paperwork
- Coordinating financial incentives for placing qualifying tenants into stable housing
Property owners who lease vacant apartments or rooms through HSU may receive:
- Broker's fees of either half of one month's rent or 15% of annual rent
- First month of rent in full and optional three months of subsidy payments paid up front
- Security Voucher (equivalent to one month’s rent)
