Monday, February 17th is Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day).

All government offices are closed, including:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • City and State Courts
  • Post offices

There will be no mail delivery.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended.

All other parking regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

There is no garbage, organics, or recycling collection on Monday, February 17th.

  • If Monday is your regular garbage or organics collection day, place your items curbside after 4 PM on Monday evening for collection beginning Tuesday, February 18th.  In some areas, your items may not be picked up until your next collection day.
  • If Monday is your recycling day, place your items curbside on Sunday, February 23rd after 4 PM for collection beginning Monday, February 24th.

All NYC Public Schools are closed for Midwinter Recess from Monday, February 17th through Friday, February 21st. Students return to school on Monday, February 24th.

P311 (Parent Support Hotline) and Family Welcome Centers, including enrollment centers, are closed on Monday, February 17th as well as on Wednesday, February 21st.

Parking in School Zones

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess. Use School Finder to get contact information for a school.

City University of New York (CUNY) Colleges are closed.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule with service provided every 30 minutes from 7 AM to midnight.

In addition, there will be no lower-level boarding in St. George Terminal.

All branches of the City's Public Library systems are closed.
