Monday, January 18th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

All government offices are closed, including:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • City and State Courts
  • Post offices

There will be no mail delivery.

Grab and go school meals will not be available. Grab and go community meals will be available at select locations from 12 PM to 3 PM.

GetFoodNYC emergency home food deliveries will continue as scheduled.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended.

All other parking regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

There is no trash or recycling collection on Monday, January 18th.

  • If Monday is your regular trash collection day, place your items curbside between 4 PM and midnight on Monday evening for collection beginning Tuesday, January 19th.  In some areas, your items may not be picked up until your next collection day.
  • If Monday is your regular recycling collection day, place your items curbside between 4 PM and midnight on Sunday, January 24th after 4 PM for collection beginning Monday, January 25th.

All NYC Public Schools are closed.

P311 (Parent Support Hotline) and Family Welcome Centers, including enrollment centers, are also closed.

Parking in School Zones

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule with service provided every 30 minutes from 7 AM to midnight.

In addition, there will be no lower-level boarding in St. George Terminal.
