Thursday, November 28th is Thanksgiving Day.

All government offices are closed, including:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • City and State Courts
  • Social Security offices
  • Post offices

There will be no mail delivery.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended.

You do not have to pay the parking meter.

No stopping, no standing, and no parking regulations are suspended, except where those regulations are in effect anytime or seven days a week.

All NYC public schools are closed on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th for Thanksgiving Recess.

P311 (Parent Support Hotline) and Family Welcome Centers, including enrollment centers, are also closed.

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess. Use School Finder to get contact information for a school.

All CUNY colleges are closed from Thursday, November 28th through Sunday, December 1st for Thanksgiving Break.

Classes will resume on Monday, December 2nd.

There is no garbage, organics, or recycling collection on Thursday, November 28th.

  • If Thursday is your regular garbage or organics collection day, place your items curbside after 4 PM on Thursday, November 28th for collection beginning Friday, November 29th.  In some areas, your garbage may not be picked up until your next collection day.
  • If Thursday is your regular recycling day, place your items curbside on Wednesday, December 4th after 4 PM for collection beginning Thursday, December 5th.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule with service provided every 30 minutes from 7 AM to midnight.

All branches of the City's Public Library systems are closed.
