Friday, November 29, the day after Thanksgiving, is not an official holiday.

All City government offices, except for Department of Education (DOE) and Social Security offices, are open.

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and courts are also open. 

Post offices are open and mail delivery follows a regular schedule.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are in effect. 

All other regulations, including parking meters, also remain in effect.

All NYC public schools are closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 for Thanksgiving Recess.

P311 (Parent Support Hotline) and Family Welcome Centers, including enrollment centers, are also closed.

Parking in School Zones

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess.

Trash, recycling, and compost collection will be delayed on Friday, November 29. 

Due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday, complaints about missed trash, recycling, and compost collection are not accepted for Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29.

All CUNY colleges are closed from Thursday, November 28 through Sunday, December 1 for Thanksgiving Break.

Classes will resume on Monday, December 2.

All branches of the City's Public Library systems are closed.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a normal schedule.
