  • Events for information about Columbus Day parades

All government offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and courts, are closed on Monday, October 14th in observance of Columbus Day. There will be no mail delivery.

Alternate Side Parking is suspended on Monday, October 14th.

All other parking regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

All NYC Public Schools are closed on Monday, October 14th.

P311 (Parent Support Hotline) and Family Welcome Centers, including enrollment centers, are also closed.

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess. Use School Finder to get contact information for a school.

There is no garbage, organics, or recycling collection on Monday, October 14th.

  • If Monday is your regular garbage or organics collection day, place your items curbside after 4 PM on Monday, October 14th.  In some areas, your garbage may not be picked up until your next collection day.
  • If Monday is your regular recycling day, place your items curbside on Sunday, October 20th after 4 PM for collection beginning Monday, October 21st.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a normal weekday schedule.

All branches of the City's Public Library systems are closed on Monday, October 14th.
