Monday, October 11th is Italian Heritage Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day, formerly known as Columbus Day.

All government offices will be closed, including:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • City and State Courts
  • Social Security offices
  • Post offices

There will be no mail delivery.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended.

All other parking regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

All NYC Public Schools are closed.

P311 (Parent Support Hotline) and Family Welcome Centers, including enrollment centers, are also closed.

Parking in School Zones

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess.

There is no trash, recycling, or curbside composting collection on Monday, October 11th.

  • If Monday is your regular trash or curbside composting collection day, place your items curbside between 4 PM and midnight on Monday evening for collection beginning Tuesday, October 12th.  In some areas, your items may not be picked up until your next collection day.
  • If Monday is your regular recycling day, place your items curbside on Sunday, October 17th between 4 PM and midnight. Your items will be collected beginning Monday, October 18th.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a normal schedule.

All branches of the City's Public Library systems are closed.
