As a mark of respect for the memory of the life and legacy of former President James (Jimmy) Earl Carter, Jr., who passed away on December 29th, all flags shall be lowered to half-staff immediately and remain at half-staff until January 28, 2025, by order of the Mayor of the City of New York, Eric L. Adams.

This order includes all flags – the American flag, the New York State and City flags, and the POW-MIA flag – on all City buildings and stationary flagstaffs throughout the five boroughs.

Former President Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States, 76th Governor of Georgia, Lieutenant of the United States Navy, and a United States Naval Academy graduate. After leaving office, he dedicated his life to brokering international peace, fostering democracy, and promoting human dignity through the Carter Center. He passed away at age 100.
