The City provides a horse-drawn carriage driver's course. If you are planning to get a license to operate a commercial horse-driven carriage, you must first take this course and pass a final exam.

The course is provided by the NYC Health Academy. It is 12 hours long and is conducted over 2 days. The cost is $25.

The course is offered four times a year:

  • January
  • April
  • July
  • October

You must have a valid motor vehicle driver's license issued in the United States to take this course. You will be asked to provide that license on the first day of class.

Classes are held at the Health Academy, located at:

The Riverside Health Center, 2nd floor
160 West 100th Street (near Columbus Avenue)

If you register online, you must pay with:

  • MasterCard (debit and credit)
  • Electronic check (you must provide your account number and bank routing number)

A 2% convenience fee will be added to all credit and debit card payments.
