You can adopt an animal at the Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC). The Care Centers are located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. ACC also holds weekly off-site adoption events.

To adopt an animal, you must:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have a photo ID
  • Show proof of your current residence
  • Show proof you are allowed to have animals in the residence if you rent your apartment or house

ACC counselors will help you choose the animal that is best for your lifestyle. If you have children living in your home, they must come to the Care Center and be part of the adoption process.

Adoption of any animal is on a first-come, first-served basis. It's also based on your specific qualifications.

Adoption fees are on a sliding scale ranging from $25 to $400, depending on the animal that is being adopted. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.
