You can make a complaint about private solid waste transfer stations. 

Complaints and potential violations include:

  • Dust conditions
  • Insects or rodents
  • Litter adjacent to property
  • Odors
  • Open doors or gates
  • Water or sewer runoff

In order to file a complaint, you must provide: 

  • Your contact information 
  • Exact time of observation
  • Name of transfer station 

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) responds to this type of complaint in 3 to 7 business days.

Solid waste transfer stations temporarily hold garbage and refuse from collection vehicles until they are transported to landfills or other treatment or disposal facilities.
