  • Hate Crime to report posters or offensive displays that can be considered a hate crime

You can report illegal postings on:

  • Public property
  • City-owned grassy areas adjacent to a street

Illegal postings include:

  • Decals
  • Flyers
  • Posters
  • Stickers

What You Can’t Report

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) doesn’t take complaints about postings that are:

  • Attached to private buildings
  • On scaffolding, wood or metal construction fencing, sheds, or barricades
  • Put up by government agencies or Community Boards
  • Announcing street closures or no parking for filming

DSNY will not remove postings from private property; removal is the sole responsibility of the property owner or manager.

What You Need

Your complaint must include:

  • The name, address, and phone number on the posting
  • The exact location of the posting

What Happens Next

If the illegal postings are on public or City-owned property and are accessible, DSNY will remove them. If the agency can identify and find who is responsible, they may give them a violation.
