You can request or download free copies of Department of Sanitation materials that explain rules for trash, recycling, and compost disposal.
Materials include:
- Decals (stickers) for compost and recycling bins
- Brochures
- Guides
- Flyers
- Posters
- Signs
Decals clearly label indoor or outdoor bins:
- Blue stickers are for metal, glass, and plastic recycling.
- Green stickers are for paper and cardboard recycling.
- Orange stickers are for compostable material (leaf and yard waste, food scraps, and food-soiled paper).
All outdoor bins must be clearly labeled so collection workers can identify them.
If you are requesting paper copies by mail, you should get them within 30 days of ordering.
