You must have a permit to install or use a water well for drinking or non-drinking residential or commercial purposes.

Fees

The fees for a new well permit are:

  • Non-Potable Water - $300 
  • Potable Water - $1,090 

The annual renewal fees for a well permit are:

  • Non-Potable Water - $15 
  • Potable Water - $340

Expiration Date

The permit expires after 1 year.

You can renew through DOHMH’s license and permit portal. You need to have an account and a Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Renew by Mail

Several weeks before your permit expires, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) will mail you a renewal package. Follow the directions on the renewal notice to renew by mail.
