You must have a Sale of Small Animals (Pet Shop) Permit to sell animals.

New Law for Sales of Dogs and Cats

Starting December 15, 2024, dogs and cats can no longer be sold at retail shops in New York State.

Renew Online

You can renew through the NYC Health Department’s license and permit portal. You need to have an account and a Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Renew by Mail

Several weeks before your permit expires, the NYC Health Department will mail you a renewal package. Follow the directions on the renewal notice to renew by mail.

Licensing appointments are available in hardship cases (physical disabilities or other impairments) that require an in-person visit.
