You must have a Barber Shop Permit to run a barber shop.

In addition to the permit, you must have a barber shop license issued by the New York State Department of State (DOS). A shop that services both men and women must have both a barber shop and a beauty shop license. Visit the New York State Professional or Business License or Permit page to learn how to apply for the appropriate license.

If you provide barber services on a City street, you must also have a General Vendor License.

The permit renewal fee is $15 per year.
