If you have a dentist office in New York State and your water is likely to come into contact with amalgam waste, the water must be treated by an amalgam separator before being discharged.

If the discharge flows into the New York City public sewer system, the dental office must report it to the Department of Environmental Protection.

Dental offices can submit the Notice of Dental Amalgam Separator Installation online, by fax, or by mail.
