You can report problems with a bail bond agent to the City or the State.

File a complaint with the City for bail bond agents who:

  • Use false or misleading advertising
  • Fail to provide a receipt or provide one that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Fail to disclose terms or use misleading terms in a contract
  • Fail to provide document copies
  • Fail to post or provide the Consumer Bill of Rights

File a complaint with the State for bail bond agents that:

  • Are unlicensed
  • Charge illegal fees
  • Fail to return or refund collateral

You can file a complaint about bail bond agents with the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection.

What Happens Next

To receive follow up on your request, you must provide your address. The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) will mail you a complaint form, which you must complete and return. If you also provide an email address with your Service Request, you will receive the form by email instead. Be sure to check your spam folder in addition to your inbox.

DCWP will consider your complaint a tip if you do not provide your address.
