  • Sewer Backup to report sewage water coming out of a toilet, sink drain, or bathtub drain

A warning is issued when a mix of untreated sewage and fresh water spills into the waterways around New York Harbor. This warning is called a Combined Sewage Overflow (CSO) Waterbody Advisory. This can be triggered by heavy rainfall or snowfall.

Water may contain bacteria that can cause illness.

People who use these waterways for activities such as fishing or boating should be aware of the risks.

This does not affect:

  • Drinking water
  • Swimming pools
