Federal Employer ID Number (EIN)

By federal law, corporations, partnerships, and certain sole proprietorships must have an Employer Identification Number (EIN) to use as a taxpayer identification number. No additional identifying number is required to do business in New York City; the EIN assigned by the IRS is accepted.

Businesses licensed by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) must get approval from DCWP when relocating. If you do not report the change of address, you are breaking the law and may get fined for every day you fail to make the update.

Some types of businesses must submit additional documentation, and some must submit a new application when they relocate.

You can submit a Change of Address request in person. You may also be able to submit your request online.
